In 1991 he became general manager and artistic director of deSingel international arts centre.
The deSingel is the main venue for the arts in Flanders. It is a unique place, which presents theatre, dance, music, music theatre and architecture. Based on an international, challenging and multiple art program brings deSingel artists, spectators and aspiring artists together in a climate of critical reflection and groundbreaking creativity.
The deSingel offers a platform for artists and the public, a place where you can expect international quality. Not just by established performers, but also by young talent in the beginning of their artistic quest.
The deSingel makes a conscious choice for artists with a vision, who approach art from new angles. The deSingel takes on collaborations. The centre supports the production of new work. It commissions compositions and co-produces in the performing arts. Special attention is given to the artist in residence: choreographer Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui and his company Eastman, contemporary music ensemble ChampdAction and conductor Philippe Herreweghe his choir and baroque orchestra Collegium Vocale Ghent. National and international artists can command over a very well equipped and spacious infrastructure to present their work.
